About this Event

You are invited to march with the Greater Flushing Chamber of Commerce in the 2020 Lunar New Year Parade on Saturday, January 25, 11am. We will gather at historic St. George's Church from 9:30 to 10:30am to connect and stay warm with hot coffee and refreshments before heading to the parade site together.

In addition to refreshments, our reception will feature a blessing by Chief Little Fox of the Matinecock Nation and a hip-hop performance by K-Pop dance group EPIC 88. Members of the Census Bureau will also be present to distribute information about the upcoming 2020 Census. Giveaways will include 1000 Good Fortune Calendars.

The Flushing Lunar New Year Parade will take place on Saturday, January 25, 2020 at 11:00am. The Parade is organized by a coalition of community groups led by the Flushing Chinese Business Association and the Korean American Association of Queens. The Parade will inaugurate the Year of the Rat.

2020 looks to be a year full of growth and accomplishments as the Rat is considered inquisitive, shrewd, and resourceful in the Chinese zodiac. The Rat is also the first in the rotation of the 12 zodiac signs, meaning that a Rat year is a year of renewal. So when a Rat year comes, it generally delivers new experiences with favorable outcomes.

During the 2020 Lunar New Year Parade, which attracts more than 10,000 visitors from around the metropolitan region, the Greater Flushing Chamber of Commerce will be distributing 5000 Red Envelopes. "In our community, Red Envelopes are gifts presented at special occasions and symbolize good luck throughout the year. Many people hold onto the Red Envelopes as keepsakes," stated Taehoon Kim, President of the Greater Flushing Chamber of Commerce. Each red envelope will include business cards and coupons from local businesses, promoting the community during the busiest and most important shopping season in Flushing.

The Greater Flushing Chamber of Commerce is part of a community coalition that plans and organizes the Flushing Lunar New Year Parade every year. The coalition is led by the Flushing Chinese Business Association (FCBA) and the Korean American Association of Queens (KAAQ).
