"A tale of self-acceptance... A hidden gem." -- San Francisco Chronicle

Event is free and open to the public. Please register in advance to reserve a spot as seating is limited.

Doors open at 6:30pm. Program starts promptly at 7pm, with a film screening followed by a discussion with the film's star Maris Degener and other special guests. Refreshments included.

About the film: Tormented by anxiety, depression and a life-threatening eating disorder, a teenage girl confronts her buried emotions through yoga. With infectious authenticity, I AM MARIS paints an unguarded portrait of mental illness and recovery, using Maris’ own words and vivid artwork to illustrate her inspiring journey. I AM MARIS is a story about mental health, self-love, and the power of one person’s voice. Learn more about the film at https://www.iammarismovie.com/

About Maris Degener: Maris is a yoga teacher, anorexia survivor, mental health advocate, writer, and college student. Since becoming certified in Vinyasa at 16, Maris’ respect for yoga and passion for sharing its offerings has only grown. In sharing the practice of yoga, Maris seeks to support others in accessing the strength and power within themselves. Learn more about Maris at https://www.yogamaris.net.

About Mental Illness Awareness Week: In 1990, Congress designated the first full week in October as Mental Illness Awareness Week (MIAW). Ever since, advocates in the mental health field use this week to host cultural events and other activities around the country to raise awareness about mental illness and reduce stigma. lululemon is honored to be hosting this national screening tour of I AM MARIS in partnership with ro*co films as part of this larger conversation to educate, inspire and fight stigma related to mental illness.

Venue is wheelchair accessible.

PARKING: The theater will validate for the Embarcadero Center garages. The most convenient is One Embarcadero Garage located directly below the theatre and can be entered from either Front or Battery Streets. Rates with Validation on M-F after 5pm – 4 hours free

PUBLIC TRANSIT: It is .3 miles from the Embarcadero BART stop, about a 6-minute walk.

Presented by lululemon and ro*co films.
