Audience reaction and critical praise following performances of Luíse in September 2016:

'With tight direction and clever use of props, Hilary Bowen-Walsh brings Celia de Fréine's beautifully-written script to life.'

'The play moves seamlessly between three languages - Irish, English and French - and the vivid, luminous performance by Bowen-Walsh ensures that the narrative is immediately accessible to non-native and native speakers alike. A captivating piece.'

'Lúise' is a compelling piece of theatre, illuminating the tenacity and vision of the formidable Louise Gavan Duffy as she set about establishing a Gaelscoil, now Scoil Bhride in Ranelagh, in 1917.'

‘I was at the Opening night of Luíse in Scoil Bhríde. I have only the cupla focail, but I was able to follow the wonderful multi lingual script which has moments of English and French. Hilary's performance is magical. She dances and sings and becomes Luise Gavan Duffy before our eyes. A gem of a production.

‘Just a note to say that the students were most impressed with the play; the acting and the multilingualism in particular.’

‘Theastaigh uaim díreach a lua leat gur bhain na mic léinn an-thairbhe go deo as an ndráma.,

'Bhí sé Iontach an mbeidh sé ar suil arís in aon aít eile ?’

'Is sárléiriú é seo ar scéal Luíse Ghabhánach Ní Dhufaigh, náisiúntóir cultúrtha, athbheochanóir, múinteoir agus bunaitheoir Scoil Bhríde, Raghnallach. Script chumhachtach thrítheangach le Celia de Fréine agus tour-de-force aisteoireachta ó Hilary Bowen-Walsh. Seo dráma ba chóir a bheith á léiriú ar ardán na hAmharclainne Náisiúnta... '

'Is ar éigean go raibh rud ar bith ar eolas agam faoi Louise Gavan Duffy sula bhfaca mé an dráma 'Luíse'. Bhí mé faoi dhraíocht ag scéal a beatha agus ag an sár-aisteoir trítheangach a ghlac ról an phríomhcharachtair. Shíl mé ag an am, agus sílim fós, gur cheart go bhfeicfeadh gach dalta Gaelscoile - agus gach tuismitheoir leis - an dráma seo. Scéal álainn a n-oidhreachta é seo agus scéal sármhná a raibh misneach, samhlaíocht agus fís aici. Molaim de Fréine agus an criú as an scéal a ríomh don stáitse ar bhealach atá chomh simplí agus chomh mealltach.'

'Dráma an-spéisiúil é seo. Dráma aonair, seachas in áit nó dhó, atá ann. Ba chróga an cinneadh é an oiread sin Fraincise a chur ann. Tuigim go bhfuil sé de réir fhírinne ach scéil, ach is beag duine a thuigfidh í, b’fhéidir. Dráma thábhachtach é, mar sin féin, agus dráma le scéal láidir faoi bhean láidir. Tráthúil an dráma seo a chur amach i mbliana. Gaeilge álainn bhlasta tríd síos. Léargas glinn ar charachtar Luíse. Dráma machnamhach fealsúnach.'
