Interisland Terminal proudly presents Lucky Peach in Honolulu from August 3-5, 2013, with talks featuring team members: Chris Ying and Walter Green sharing the Lucky Peach story of how to create a food magazine with barely any resources. Program includes events for creatives, industry, and foodies to be held at R/D, 691 Auahi Street, and V-Lounge Hawaii, 1344 Kona Street. See full program schedule below.
“For those of us stuck to the continental forty-eight, Hawaii feels like the closest we can get to visiting a foreign country without leaving the U.S.” says Lucky Peach writer and editor, Chris Ying. “We're champing at the bit to come to Honolulu. Our pasty bodies yearn for the sun; our atrophied mainland brains cry out for a little island culture.”
In summer 2011, Momofuku Chef/Owner and culinary star, David Chang, former New York Times food writer Peter Meehan, and writer/editor Chris Ying launched Lucky Peach food journal published by McSweeney’s. Explosive fanfare greeted the journalʻs start, with more than 100,000 copies in circulation in less than a year. Lucky Peach brings a unique perspective towards food from the industry’s biggest players such as - Anthony Bourdain, Wylie Dufresne, Ruth Reichl, Christina Tosi, Daniel Patterson, Russell Chatham and Harold McGee.
Lucky Peach is innovative in its exploration of themes via essays, recipes, and art. Itʻs 3rd issue, Chefs and Cooks, was released on March 13th 2012 and was also a New York Times Bestseller – a rare achievement for a magazine.
Chris Ying designed and edited Anthony Myint’s debut book Mission Street Food and is now working on Mission Chinese Food’s first cookbook, as well as an upcoming cookbook for Japanese noodle phenom Ivan Ramen
Walter Green is the art director/designer of Lucky Peach and sister McSweenyʻs publication The Believer.

About Interisland Terminal:
Interisland Terminal present on-going series of programs to explore the intersections of creativity, innovation and leadership, thus paving the way for the creative approaches needed to address the civic and social challenges facing Hawaii. Though there are many arts and culture organizations in Honolulu, Interisland Terminal remains unique in its stands for strong curatorial independence, cutting across all media, and with an emphasis on design unfound in existing local organizations. The organization’s creative direction is truly hybrid and international – simultaneously located in Honolulu, Los Angeles, New York, and with a footprint in the Asia-Pacific and in Europe.
