Event description

Description

We have been delivering RTPI accredited planning courses successfully at LSBU for 50 years (in 2018). Our courses continue to be popular and attract talented and committed students onto the part time route, usually sponsored by their employer. We are the “No.1 London University for 'teaching on my course' in Planning” - as reported by the National Student Survey 2016.

This event brings together the LSBU planning courses’ team with existing and potential sponsors of undergraduate and postgraduate planning students. Participants will be informed about the latest developments in our postgraduate courses and have a chance to influence the BA (Hons) degree and postgraduate diploma in planning; currently undergoing major reviews.

See the current RTPI accredited course web pages here:

In addition there will be presentations from recent graduates (tbc) working in practice who will share their experiences of planning education at LSBU; explaining how the knowledge and skills gained contribute to their practice and support communities. There will be a Q&A session and all participants will be encouraged to share their experiences regarding the needs, challenges and opportunities of planning education.

There is no charge for this event, but booking is essential. Refreshments will be served towards the end of the event and there will be time for the all-important networking. Spaces are limited so please book early. Please bring your ticket with you. Booking closes at 5pm, 11 January 2018.

The event starts at 5pm, 18 January 2018 with registration from 4.30pm.

If you have any questions please email Dr Michael Leary-Owhin at learym@lsbu.ac.uk

Organiser Description

Planning courses at LSBU are delivered by a team located in the Division of Urban, Environment and Leisure Studies (UELS) which is within the School of Law and Social Sciences.

Our offices and core teaching accommodation are located in the historic Borough Road Building. Our accommodation has recently been refurbished and upgraded to improve teaching space, especially for urban design and to provide enhanced student facilities in our UELS Resource Centre. We adopt an active student learning and research informed teaching philosophy. We combine academic and theoretical rigour with professional and policy knowledge and we develop students’ practical skills. The core teaching team is shown below and we are supported by a team of visiting speakers mostly from practice, some of whom are our alumni:

  • Neil Adams
  • Sam Barton
  • Margaret Hollins
  • Dr Michael Leary-Owhin
  • Dr Manuela Madeddu
  • Dr Antonia Noussia
  • Dr Phil Pinch
  • Dr Yvonne Robinson
  • Dr Duncan Tyler (HoD)
