LOWER OCONEE HIDDEN GEM

PADDLE & CAMPOUT
SEPT 17-18


 

 Spend a weekend exploring this up-and-coming Water Trail on the Fall Line of middle Georgia! Join us for an exciting two day paddle, dinner party, and campout on the Oconee River in Milledgeville, GA!

The event will include:

Lunch * A festive Low Country Boil dinner * Live music with Rich Martin & Friends * Yoga & Drum Circle with 'Good Karma' * Camping * Hot breakfast * Presentations along the route ranging from flora/fauna and water health, to river restoration and cultural history...

We will be paddling:

Near the sites of revolution-era forts * Through antebellum shipping routes * In the habitat of bald eagles, osprey, kingfishers, river otters, longnose gar, and blossoming Cherokee Rose


 

NOTE: Boats are NOT included with this paddle. Paddlers must secure their own boats. Rental options are available through Oconee Outfitters. We will paddle rain or shine except in the event of a severe thunderstorm or dangerously high water levels. Participants must cancel within 48 hours of the event to receive a refund.

 

TRIP DETAILS

 

#1. Paddle Distance, Class, End Time:

Day 1 - 6.1 miles

Day 2 - 2.2 miles  

 

This paddle is all flatwater. Novice paddlers are welcome to join. We expect everyone should be off the river by no later than noon on Sunday.

Bringing your Own Boat?

Please drop off your boat and passengers at the Put-In (if bringing your own boat) and then drive to the parking location, park your vehicle, and load your camping gear onto the designated camping gear bus between 8:00 and 8:30 AM. A shuttle will then take drivers to the Put-In location. Your secure camping gear will be awaiting your arival at the private Campsite that afternoon.

 #3. Do you Need a Boat?

As already mentioned, boat rental is not included with this paddle. If you need to rent a boat, please make arrangements with the outfitter associated with the trip, which will be provided once you have registered.

If Renting a Boat:

Please drive directly to the parking location. Unload your camping gear onto the designated camping gear bus between 8:00 and 8:30 AM. A shuttle will then take you to the Put-In location.Your rental boat will be waiting for you at the Put-In location and your secure camping gear will be awaiting your arival at the private Campsite that afternoon.

  • River Health - Dr. Kalina Manoylov, Georgia College and State Univ.
  • Live Band - Richard Martin and friends
  • Yoga and Drum Circle - good KARMA
  • Paddle & Campout Partners: Georgia River Network, Lower Oconee Water Trail, Altamaha Riverkeeper

#5. Meals:

The following meals are included in the paddle/campout ticket price. We have also offered the option for your family and friends to purchase Saturday night dinner tickets if they would like to join. Smokey potato, corn and white bean stew available by request as a vegetarian alternative

Menu: Choice of...

  • Turkey & Swiss on wheat with mayo, spring mix, tomatoes, onions

  • Ham & Swiss on white with mayo, spring mix, tomatoes, onions

  • Wicked Pimento Cheese on white

  • Veggie Salad - cucumbers, tomatoes, onions, bell peppers, black olives on spring mix with choice of dressing at event


SATURDAY DINNER
Provided by: Altamaha Riverkeeper
Menu: Appetizers of Clams from Sapelo Sound, Low country boil featuring fresh GA white shrimp, Savory Arugula & Asparagus salad, assorted cookies & sweets, and Sweet Tea & Water. Smokey potato, corn and white bean stew available by request as a vegetarian alternative.

SUNDAY BREAKFAST

Provided by: Local Yolkal & Blackbird Coffee
Menu: Coffee, scrambled eggs, bacon, grits, fruit bowl, and biscuits.

 

#6. Suggestions for lodging on Friday night before the trip will be provided upon registration for those who are interested.
