Loving Our Neighbor[hood]
Event Information
Description
Loving our Neighbor[hood]: 2:00 - 7:00 PM, June 11, 2019
Co-hosted by the Congress for the New Urbanism Members Christian Caucus (CNU-MCC) and Sojourn Church, Louisville.
Since the CNU-MCC's founding three years ago our membership has grown year-to-year, and so too has interest in CNU-MCC's sponsored sessions at the annual congress. Last year, for example, the CNU-MCC member led session was standing room only with people in the hallway listening to the presentations. For this reason we decided to host a pre-day event at CNU27 for Christian Caucus members who want to arrive the afternoon before CNU kicks off to engage with more CNU-MCC curated content, and for local church leaders to learn more about caring for our communities and neighbors through the lens of New Urbanism and CNU's specialized toolkit for (re)designing and building healthy, sustainable, just, and liveable cities, towns, and neighborhoods.
GOALS
We have put together a simple program to achieve the following goals:
-
More opportunity for connection and sharing between CNU-MCC members
-
Connect locals--planners, designers, community developers and local pastors--with each other and with CNU and CNU-MCC members.
-
A forum for engaging with new urban content/examples/issues that are relevant to Christians, the church and, New Urbanists.
SCHEDULE & LOCATION:
Sojoun Church - Midtown (1207 S Shelby St., Louisville).

This will be a time for attendees to discuss with others at their table the ideas, questions, and thoughts they have about what they have heard throughout the day. Potential questions include: What new and/or significant things did you hear today? How does your church property contribute and/or hinder your efforts to carry out your mission? What are steps you can take to begin promoting the common good through the built environment with your work in the church and/or as an urbanist?
Each table facilitator will share high points of discussion from their table.
