Description:

For the event schedule, please continue scrolling down.

In this current climate, the issue of racial division is exacerbated by the political rhetoric of the day. To combat this decay of the social fabric, we at the NAACP believe that highlighting the positive and resilient voices of communities of color will reinvigorate heart-to-heart communications and connections.

The local branch of the NAACP has been a central presence in the African American community and is well-placed as a community partner that speaks to the ideas of multiculturalism and inclusion.

The image of African Americans and Black people has long been under attack by those who despise diversity. Recently, there seems to be a hardening of this position. To foster positive understanding and exchanges, this program will give voice to those in the struggle; to those who can tell their stories as a true counterbalance to the negative and false narrative espoused by those who oppose a connected world and mankind.

Guests will be treated to an evening at the Historic Mims house, the oldest Black-owned property in Eugene, Oregon, and engage with local Black artists and/or activists to renew our shared humanity and understanding in these trying times. This free program is funded by a grant from Oregon Humanities.
