Event description

Description

Directed by Edmund Goulding | Greta Garbo, John Gilbert

Tolstoy's classic tale of adultery and passion is beautifully acted in this silent version. After the young Russian count Alexis Vronsky unsuccessfully attempts to seduce a veiled woman at an inn, he discovers she is the wife of a well-known senator. The encounter sparks an attraction, then a passion between the two, risking his career and social standing, her marriage and relationship with her son. According to legend, the film's title was changed from Anna Karenina to Love so that it could be advertised as "Greta Garbo and John Gilbert in LOVE."
