Event description

Description

#Woke means to be aware, a heightened level of consciousness relating to issues within society, paricularly social injustice and racism, its a sudden awareness of what is really going on and to challenge what you understood to be the truth.

Given the recent social climate of Brexit and the Grenfell Tower Disaster, the increased hostility between black youth and the Police, as well as terror attacks in Manchester and London and subsequent attacks on people of the Islamic faith we discuss place, race and identity in Multicultural Britain.

With a series of talks which aims to explore the discourse of identity. Inspired by Tram Nguyen's "Language is a Place of Struggle" Hackney Attic will be come a curated space for creative expression through spoken word, poetry and performance. With old School Hip Hop anthems and R&B cuts provided by Ace of Jacks Radio and hosted by K J Brazant with guest speakers and contributors to the debate.

Check out our social media pages on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter page for the format of discussions and meet ups @Loungeakademics.
