Masonry Codes & Standards Update

This seminar will familiarize attendees with the development process of the TMS 402 - Building Code Requirements & Specification for Masonry Structures, and TMS 602 – Specification for Masonry Structures, while highlighting major changes that were incorporated into the 2012 and 2015 IBC editions. A look forward to the 2016 TMS documents and the 2018 IBC will also be covered.

Case Studies in Masonry Design & Construction

Presented in a case study format, the session focuses on how masonry can be applied structurally to solve a variety of situations that face engineers on real-world projects. The case studies follow the projects from design through construction. The variety and flexibility in design showcased by these structural masonry case studies should open the eyes of the design and construction community to the opportunities possible with masonry.

Tips for Optimizing Structural Masonry

Taught using a “Tips” format, this seminar will highlight areas where proper understanding of masonry - from architectural and engineering design to materials to construction methods - can result in better engineered and completed buildings. Ways to use existing materials more effectively, explanations of the effect of one selection on another, discussions of new materials and current code and specification provisions will be included.

This session is an opportunity to tour the International Masonry Institute’s Louisville, KY training center and observe mock-ups of masonry installation techniques, their affiliated details, as well as ask questions.
