Event description

Description

The Lost Souls Public Memorial Project presents a memorable evening of memory, poetry, and community building. Along with the Recitation of the Names of the Lost Souls, there will be poetry written and performed by Glenis Redmond, State Theatre New Jersey Poet-in-Residence.

May 22, 2019 7 -9pm at The Barn

Tickets for General Admission are $60*. This includes dinner & dessert.

$100 Special Ticket. A limited number of a special printing (“broadside”) of a poem written for this occasion and signed by the poet is available for an additional fee ($100* for a single ticket and one broadside combined). The broadside will be available at the event for pick-up. We are not able to send it separately, due to the capacity of our volunteers.

Sliding Scale (just added): If you support this project, but can't afford the general admission, we have added a sliding scale ticket price of $38 for you. Please come: we'd love to have your presence at this memorable event.

* For the $60 ticket, $30 is tax-deductible. For the $100 ticket, $45 is tax-deductible. For $38 ticket, nothing is deductible. Please keep this ticket and these instructions as receipt for your records.

OUTRIGHT DONATIONS:

We accept donations for the memorial at the event by check or through this site (so if you are not able to attend the event, you can still support this worthy cause). 100% of donations are tax-deductible, thanks to our current fiscal agent, The Unitarian Society.

This is our inaugural fundraiser with the goal of building a public memorial to those 177+ African Americans who were sold into permanent slavery in 1818 by a corrupt Middlesex County judge who resided in East Brunswick. Four ships sailed holding both enslaved and free persons, some young children, into the Deep South. The second ship sailed on May 25; each year, we mark this appalling episode in our local history around Memorial Day to re-member these Lost Souls back home.

We are an all-volunteer grassroots community group that welcomes your involvement as we ramp up our efforts to make the memorial a reality. We meet the first Tuesday of every month. For more information, be sure to check out our Facebook page.

Please be sure to print your ticket to ensure admission at the door.

Note: This location is a working farm. Flats (not high heels) are recommended.
