If you were at For the Funk of It 2017, you are sure to remember their stellar performance..... they absolutely OWNED that stage!

Vokab Kompany was started by Rob Hurt in 2006. His debut album Liquid Language featured Killer Priest of Wu-Tang Clan. This album featured Burkey on two tracks - "40Thieves" and "Soul Sista", which served as the start of the collaboration between the two. Burkey's accomplishments include opening for poet Maya Angelou with his band Native Root and featuring on MTV Thailand and Bakery Music hip hop compilation T Hop with the band The Golden Triangle.

The band has most recently been releasing a number of acclaimed singles to keep the airwaves rocking. Their recent single "Turn Me Out" was released by Gravitas Records and featured Lyrics Born. Their single "Warm in the Light" from their collaborative EP with 9 theory titled "Beneath The Shallows" was featured by Forbes.[1]

Their most recent LP, The Good Kompany Album, was released on January 20, 2016 to critical acclaim and includes guest features from Gift of Gab (rapper), Mitchy Slick, and more. The release was followed up by a headlining West Coast tour that featured special appearances by friends and fellow collaborators on the album.

They have played over hundreds of shows and festivals: Including; "The Do Lab Stage" at Coachella, Electric Forest, Shambhala, Summer Meltdown, Kaleidoscope Festival and Lightning in a Bottle, as direct support for artists such as Cee Lo Green, De La Soul, Cage the Elephant, Del the Funky Homosapien, Wiz Khalifa, Matisyahu, Pepper (band) at the Playboy Mansion, The Wailers Band and have toured as direct support for acts such as Umphrey's McGee, Collie Buddz, The Pimps of Joytime, and Zion I. Vokab Kompany was also featured as the lead MC's on Karl Denson's Tiny Universe (Lenny Kravitz, Rolling Stones) nationwide RUN DMC tribute tour.

IdeaTeam:

Pretty sure this band's picture is in Webster's dictionary next to the words "fun" and "horn-driven".....
Another For the Funk of It favorite, they did two energentic and engaging sets at this year's Hangtown Halloween Festival.

Ideateam is a 9-piece ensemble driven to fuse together a variety of influences in a fresh way. Loaded up with two guitars, bass, drums, percussion, brass section, and soulful vocals, the group explores the corridors of groove while flipping through styles like a deck of cards, flowing in and around various genres, noticeably leaning on the funk. Their live sound brings essences of old and new, blended with a few drops of extraterrestrial soundscapes - presented by a group of people who simply love to play music. Ideateam’s self-produced debut album '&?!' (And What Now) landed in 2014 and contains original instrumental groove fusion. Ideateam has shared the stage with several festival / tour circuit favorites (Orgone, Polyrhythmics, Kyle Hollingsworth Band, Monophonics) and has been honored to open for legends such as Bernard Purdie and The Headhunters. Other notable appearances include the Railroad Earth-hosted Hangtown Music Festival, For the Funk of It Festival and the Apple Jam Festival. Ideateam's second full-length album 'Moving Still' hit in October 2016, along with a fresh batch of new live material and video releases. The group seeks to continue evolving the live music experience they are quickly becoming known for, and further cultivating a positive connection with people through music.

Starting off the night is Chico's FAVORITE band, Smokey The Groove.

Smokey the Groove is formed by 8 Chico friends from various Music projects. By joining forces they use saxy jazz to make the world a funkier place. Smokey the Goove give you the tunes to get you dancing. Combining Funky Jazz, electronic drums and Bass, live horns, to create a spacey, eastern, live-tronic sassy feel that will change how you listen to music!
