LOS MIRLOS

Named after a black bird in their native jungle, Los Mirlos are the uncrowned kings of tropical Peruvian Cumbia, or Cumbia Amazonica. The band came together in Lima during the oil boom of the 70s and created a uniquely new and powerful party music inspired by the Anglophone psychedelic rock and surf music of the time.

Fast-forward some 40 years, and Los Mirlos have travelled and performed in almost every Latin American country, and are still considered essential for the culture of Amazonian Cumbia, not in the last place because of popular compilations such as "Roots of Chicha", "Back To Peru", and "Cumbia Beat Vol. 1".

Songs like 'La Danza de Los Mirlos', 'Sonido Amazónico', 'Lamento en la Selva', 'Muchachita del Oriente', and 'Chinito en Onda' are kept in the memory of many people worldwide, who all danced to them at one point of their life.

The iconic band is well known for the incredible productions of psychedelic Peruvian Cumbia that they have produced since the 70’s. Widely known as the mastermind of the Peruvian-Amazonian Cumbia, they are back to the musical scene to share with the world the Peruvian musical history and the value of it.

Jorge Rodriguez Granda and his brothers and cousin, originally from the northeastern jungle town of Moyobamba migrated to Lima back in 1973 where they started the band that was to become one of the cornerstones of Peruvian cumbia (or chicha).

Who are we?

It is a group that disseminates music and culture of the Peruvian Amazon. Created in Lima in 1973, but its true origin was in Moyobamba, city where the members of the group met.

Considered one of the pioneers of the psychedelic Amazonian Cumbia, Los Mirlos travel the world after 45 years with pride to make known the sound of the jungle in Peru and in the world.

Currently they are a reference thanks to their musical style that has managed to consolidate through the passage of time and different trends. Los Mirlos now reach a young audience eager to hear new nuances and sounds, discovering in the Psychedelic Amazonian cumbia the root of this movement.

Origins: Born in the jungle of Peru, even young students, the Rodríguez Grández brothers, formed in the beginning "Los Saetas" (1968). Already in Lima the birth of the musical group "Los Mirlos" would be given under the direction of Jorge Rodríguez Grández. It should be noted that the brand is registered and protected in the National Library (1973) as well as in ITINTEC, INDECOPI and in other countries of the Americas.

Meaning: Los Mirlos, is the name of a beautiful black bird that lives in the Amazon and other parts of the world. Domesticable bird that can learn to repeat the sounds and even the human voice and its song is very appreciated for its beauty as it makes the forests, parks and gardens happy during the spring.

THIS IS AN ESSENTIAL GIG! LOS MIRLOS ARE THE ORIGINAL ROOTS OF CHICHA!
