TICKETS are NOW ON SALE FOR OUR 2019 KAYAK SEASON!! BOOK YOUR SUMMER FUN TODAY!

Get your tickets early—don't delay planning your best summer ever. Paddle the LA River and experience this one-of-a-kind Los Angeles kayaking experience.

Enjoy a next-level experience in the Elysian Valley Recreation Zone (a.k.a. the "Glendale Narrows") and adjacent Frogtown on these special Saturday trips. Nature and the city combine to make this a truly one-of-a-kind experience.

WHERE: The "Elysian Valley" (i.e., Glendale Narrows) is just east of and over the hill from Dodger Stadium. Nearby neighborhoods include: Frogtown/Elysian Valley, Cypress Park, Glassell Park, Silver Lake and Atwater Village. The start of these adventurous trips is in the middle of a burgeoning creative community on the riverbank.

WHAT: This section has some Class-I rapids (light) and plenty of rocks to maneuver around. It's fun but not easy; you should have prior intermediate-level kayaking experience. These popular guided recreational-educational tours are based on the successful tours we've run since 2011. Experience this vibrant part of LA and paddle this famous natural resource in a way you've never seen it before.

HOW: You'll learn how to be safer around rivers and you'll get a fantastic workout. Expect to get wet. But first, scout your route on a short hike along the riverside bikepath to the put in. Then, after safety instruction and a gear check, hop into a kayak to enjoy a paddle in the riverbed. Our guides will be with you all the way

WHO: LA River Expeditions is the original boating outfit on the LA River and the only one leading tours in both Recreation Zones. We are the group that, in 2008, paddled the 51 miles of the river to help win environmental protections for it under the Clean Water Act. Since then, as a California nonprofit, we've put 6,000+ people on the river in kayaks. We're proud of having contributed to our community's enjoyment and learning.

WHY: For its river conservation efforts, LA River Expeditions is the recipient of the Green Paddle Award (American Canoe Association), the River Warrior Award (Resource Renewal Institute) and the River Hero award (River Network). We do all this because we are avid kayakers and all-around river enthusiasts. Our experienced guides have decades of collective experience running rivers. They've received professional training in safety and paddling skills. All guides maintain First Aid/CPR certification.

! NOTE that these trips are challenging and are not for everyone. A fitness level of at least 3 on a scale of 5 is recommended. This is not simply flatwater paddling (as on our Sepulveda Basin tours up in the San Fernando Valley). There are numerous obstacles amidst shallow water, often in 90+ degree heat. There are boats to lift and rapids that could flip your boat. DO NOT register for these trips if you're a first-time kayaker; your paddling skills should be Intermediate or above. Also, do not do this trip if you have a medical condition that could be compromised, or if you're particularly sensitive to less-than-pristine water, or if you're over 210 lbs. (due to kayak stability and capacity limits — sorry.). Kids 10+ OK as long as they're fairly athletic and have paddled before. LARivX reserve the right to restrict participation for safety reasons. There is a strict no-refund policy though we can accomodate with a more appropriate trip.

We hope to see you out on the LA River soon!! Scroll further below for important FAQs...

Fun & adventure in the Elysian Valley.

FAQs:

* How experienced do I have to be? This trip requires you to be AT LEAST AN INTERMEDIATE-LEVEL KAYAKER. These are sporty, physically challenging and strenuous trips. Periodically, you'll need to get in and out of the boat — plan to get wet.

* Is there a weight limit? Yes, no more than 210 lbs., please. The water is shallow and the kayaks have a weight capacity limits. Be sure that each person for whom you're buying a ticket meets these criteria, or you/they may be in for a rather unpleasant experience. It's a stability/safety issue, too, so please respect that.

* How about age limits? For this stretch, we recommend about 10 years up to about 70 (barring any extraordinary health or physical pre-conditions).

* Is it hot out there? Yes. It can be very hot during the summer in this area. If you have particular issues with heat, or tenuous medical issues, this just might not be for you.

* How's the water quality? The LA River, like most urban rivers, suffers from pollution. Incidental contact with the water (i.e., hand to mouth, ingesting it) is to be avoided; mainly, common sense should be used. Still, the river is deemed safe for this type of activity by state and city authorities who do water monitoring. LA River Expeditions has not had any notable reported health incidents due to river water since we began running tours in 2011 (that's nearly 10,000 people). Nonetheless, we take safety seriously and have ample supplies of anti-bacterial sanitizers plus fresh water to wash off with at the end of your tour. If water monitoring reveals unusually high levels of bacteria, tours will be canceled. Starting in 2018, the new go-to site for testing safe water quality is the City's LA Sanitation website at: https://bit.ly/2IBTqz4. Feel free to check it out if you have any further questions. Heal the Bay recommends kayaking, but also to keep an eye on the weekly water quality reports.

* What about parking in the local neighborhoods? Parking will be provided at a private facility adjacent to the start and end of the trip.

* What if my trip is canceled? The trips are sometimes canceled due to rain or water quality (the latter is usually due to storms). If that happens, we will work with you to reschedule you for another tour as soon as possible.

* What's your cancellation policy? Sorry, but once you purchase your tickets there are no refunds. Being late or getting lost is on you. However, if you know ahead of time that you'll be unable to attend your tour for whatever reason, we recommend any of these options: 1) Tickets are 100% transferable, so you could sell them to another person 2) You may use our Facebook page to look for people who are interested in tickets, or post your tickets as available for sale (sometimes it helps to offer a discount) 3) You can always gift your ticket(s) to a friend, family member or work colleague so that someone can enjoy the experience.

* OK, so how do I get tickets? If you're excited to experience this novel adventure, then we'd love to have you aboard! Use this site to select a Date, then click on Tickets and follow the prompts for payment. If it says "Sold Out" then you simply look for another available date.

* After I get my tickets, how do find out everything else I'll need to know? About six days before your trip you will receive our "Welcome Kit." It contains info like what to bring, exactly where to meet and when, written directions and maps, and also a couple of waivers you'll need to sign and bring with you. If you are registering on behalf of others, please be sure to share this information with them, especially the waivers. They must be signed by each individual before they can participate.
