About this Event

The USC Environmental Student Assembly is honored to host the official Los Angeles Global People’s Hub as a part of the Global People Summit. This Hub is open to USC students and their guests who are interested in helping to shape conversations and solutions to the world's most pressing issues. General Information about both the Hub and Summit can be found below.

Los Angeles Global People’s Hub

Program

Speaker Series: 9:00 - 9:40 am

1) Opening Talk - Dr. Nathan Walworth (2018 Global People's Fellow/Co-chair of the NEXUS Futurism Lab/Post-doctoral Scholar in the USC Levine Lab) will highlight his work with the United Nations lying at the intersection of the Human Story, Social Impact, and the Planet.

2) Public and Private Environmental Impact - Serial Entrepreneur and former Director of Special Projects at the EPA under the Obama Administration, Debriana Berlin, will speak on her work both in the public sector producing international projects like Earth Day as well as her work in the private sector starting multiple companies for environmental impact.

3) Regulatory Climate Adaptation - Director of the USC Center for Sustainability Solutions/Professor of Public Policy and Economics, Dr. Antonio Bento, will speak on his work on climate adaptation at the federal regulatory level.

Internship opportunity with Dashboard.earth: 9:40 - 10:00 pm

CEO of Dashboard.earth, Gayatri Roshan, will describe their groundbreaking platform redefining the relationship between lifestyle, currency, and behavior including a unique internship offering for those who are interested!

The Global People Summit: 10:00 - 12:00 pm

Live Broadcast of the Global People Summit in New York - We will live broadcast the Global People Summit where global audiences can engage directly with speakers onscreen through Q&A's.

Social Impact Networking: 12:00 - 12:30 pm

Attendees will engage with each other through an interactive networking session designed by the session leaders to break silos and expand our networks of impact. We will center around the 2018 Themes to Reimagine Humanity. This will be a great opportunity to meet both peers and mentors working in social and environmental impact.

Calling global change-makers, dreamers, do-ers and creators. We need YOUR voice to help shape conversations that impact the world. On 22 September, we'll be connecting the world to the United Nations to catalyze change, celebrate innovation and harness global good. Are you IN?

In partnership with the United Nations, we invite you to join us during the United Nations General Assembly, to discuss and find solutions to the world’s biggest challenges. The Summit democratizes access to conversations and information that shape the world. The Global People's Summit is 100% online and inclusive.


Join from anywhere in the world to create change, disrupt development and unlock YOUR potential. We passionately believe that real action for the UN Sustainable Development Goals can only happen when we lift global voices to collaborate, share and co-design solutions, together.


The Summit will feature innovators, world leaders and change-makers from around the world, and will amplify inspirational stories, create space for collaboration and inspire bold action for humanity.


How it works:

  1. Register here to join our USC Global People Summit Hub (for free)
  2. On 22 September, will will login to the live stream.
  3. Ask speakers questions directly on the Summit platform (that will go live on 22 September)
  4. Engage in conversations and share your thoughts on social media using #GlobalPeople. We will feature the online conversations (tweets, Instagram posts and Facebook posts) on the Summit interface, on the main stage of the Summit live-show and also inside the United Nations!
  5. In real-time you can connect to leaders, creators, dreamers and experts all over the world working to advance their causes and communities.


The theme for the 2018 theme is Reimagine Humanity. We will challenge the world to think differently, act boldly, and re-imagine solutions for the future we want. The status quo is not working-- we aim disrupt it and reimagine new solutions.


Summit Agenda/Format includes:

  • 35 interactive interviews with high-level speakers & global change makers
  • 4 "how-to" sessions (lessons for you to integrate into your own work
  • 8 inspiring "activations" and calls to action (where we invite you to join us to amplify global good)
