Description

Looking at the Past Understanding the Present Shaping the Future – an evening about sustainability

In this roundtable conversation, UK and Germany-based artists Beatrice Searle, Lyndsay Mann and Sonya Schönberger will give an insight to some of their works that tackle the issues of sustainability, how humans interact with nature, how this interaction changed since the colonisation of the Non-Western World and what the impacts are for us today. The audience will be invited to join the conversation, share their thoughts, concerns and strategies to approach sustainability in their own practices and lives. The conversation will be moderated by Benjamin Cook, Director of LUX London.

This event is devised by Sonya Schönberger, the current Goethe@LUX artist in residence who is exploring plant ecologies as part of a project inspired by the work of the poet Andrew Marvell who lived in Waterlow Park where LUX London is based.

The Goethe@LUX Residency has been running since 2017 to offer an artist living in Germany and working with the moving image the opportunity to spend May to July in London to work on a particular theme. The residency also includes developing events with LUX Scotland and the Goethe-Institut in Glasgow. Visiting artists so far have been Liz Rosenfeld (2017) and Anahita Razmi (2018).
