The Look + Listen Festival celebrates contemporary music by presenting it in compelling visual art settings.
About this event
Look + Listen celebrates contemporary music by presenting it in compelling visual art settings, all through the continuation of its free ticketing initiative. Now in its sixth year at BRIC, Look + Listen’s program reaches across genres and diasporic communities to explore the intersections between music and justice.
The 2019 Look + Listen Festival at BRIC will include the following:
- The world premiere of Look + Listen’s 2019 commission by Rome Prize winner Jessie Marino featuring the TAK Ensemble;
- An electronic song set written and performed by multi-instrumentalist Angélica Negrón reflecting on her native Puerto Rico;
- Seattle Symphony Artist-in-Residence Seth Parker Woods sharing music for cello and electronics by Haitian-American composer Nathalie Joachim that documents women from her musical heritage, and MacArthur Fellow George Lewis’ Not Alone featuring computer-generated improvisation.
The performance will also feature Q&As and discussions with the musicians performing, and an informal atmosphere to explore connections between the visual and sonic arts.
