If you work to provide support and care for someone with Parkinson's, please join us for this day of training to increase your awareness and skill in managing the unique care needs of people living with Parkinson's. Designed to provide professional caregivers (staff in assisted living, nursing, rehab, adult foster care, and home health) with crucial knowledge that is specifically designed to be easily understood and applied in everyday situations.
Five Modules will be covered.
$10.00 fee includes lunch, workbooks and handouts.
Full-day participation required for certificate of attendance.
Overview of Parkinson's Disease: Causes and symptoms of PD, teamwork approach to care.
Medication Management: Common medications for PD, side effects, how to identify and assist with "on/off" states, importance of timing and interactions with diet.
Enhancing Communication & Swallowing: How PD affects speech and swallowing, techniques to assist, and ways to maintain communication.
Activities of Daily Living: Risk factors and techniques to prevent falls, how to respond to freezing, daily activity modifications, and adaptive aids.
Cognitive Issues: Understand and learn how to respond to depression, anxiety, psychosis, cognitive impairment, dementia and common sleep disorders in PD.
