Description

Please join us for our BioBlitz at Long Key Natural Area!
A bioblitz is an intensive one-day study of biodiversity in a location, bringing scientists and volunteer citizen scientists together to count all the wonderful life in Long Key. No experience necessary, everyone is welcome to come help out and learn more about South Floridas unique plants and animals.

Our schedule is finally out! Please hit register and sign up for the walks youre interested in.

Schedule

------------------------------------------

7:00am - 9:00am - Morning Vertebrate Walk (birds and reptiles). We'll be exploring far and wide in the park for as many birds and reptiles as we can. With the help of our trained naturalists, we'll venture into normally restricted conservation areas rarely seen.

10:00am - 10:30am - Welcome presentation (booths open)

11:00am - 11:30am - Ephemeral Wetland walk (short). This short visit to the ephemeral wetland will teach you all about the importance and function of this unique habitat in the park.

11:30am - 12:00pm - Butterfly and Bird walk (short). Join us on this short trip to the mitigation ponds to search for the birds and butterflies that call this wetland home.

12:00pm - 1:00pm - Lunch and Learn (Food available to purchase) - Join our naturalists for lunch and ask them questions in an open forum. We'll have a submission bowl or feel free to ask your question in person!

1:30pm - 3:30pm - Butterfly walk - Join us as we explore the park, focusing on finding as many butterflies as we can.

3:30pm - 5:30pm - Insect walk - This family friendly group will focus on trying to find and identify as many unique insects around the visitor center, capturing and talking about each unique bug. Fun for the kids!

5:30pm - 7:30pm - Evening vertebrate walk (Birds and reptiles) - Just like the morning walk, we'll be exploring the rarely seen parts of the park to find as many interesting birds and reptiles as we can.

7:30pm - 9:30pm - Night walk - We'll focus on our nocturnal animals in this walk, calling for owls, listening for bats, and talking about the invasive frogs and reptiles that have invaded Florida.

------------------------------------------

Even if you're not planning on joining any particular group, feel free to roam around the park counting animals for us. Just sign in and report your sightings back via the iNaturalist app or back at the booth.

We'll see you there!
