Event description

Description

There are a lot of stark truths that accompany early motherhood, many of which are left unspoken for fear of being thought of as a ‘bad’ parent. We’re putting all parental taboos to bed, and creating a safe space to get into the nitty gritty that comes with early motherhood, namely the loneliness one feels in the first few months of nurturing a new babe. Join us for a panel discussion in partnership with Not Safe for Mom Group (NSFMG); led by NSFMG founder, Alexis Barad-Cutler, and accompanied by Mama Talks co-founder Mari Agory, BINTO founder Suzie Welsh and Mama Glow doula, Lauren Solomon.

Alexis Barad-Cutler is a writer, and the founder of Not Safe For Mom Group (NSFMG) — an online and in-real-life community where mothers express and explore unfiltered feelings about the grittier sides of motherhood without fear of judgment. Tagged as “the mom group you didn’t know you needed,” NSFMG is a place to find support around the topics of motherhood that people tend to keep inside, and rarely say out loud. NSFMG publishes boundary-pushing, and informative content about motherhood, and hosts live events and meetups in NYC.

In her writing, her community-building, and her events, Alexis has helped open up a frank, yet vulnerable type of dialogue that moms have been craving. She also creates contentfor sites like Mindr, Fatherly, Beyond Mom, Hey Mama, and Well Rounded — among other outlets that cater to the parenting set. Alexis lives in Brooklyn Heights with her husband, and their two young boys — who not only provide endless content for her writing, but also inspire her undying affection for dirty martinis.

Mari Agory is a renowned international fashion model who has worked for prominent fashion houses such as Marc Jacobs, Balenciaga, Vivienne Westwood, Zac Posen (to name a few). She has appeared in editorials for various fashion magazines including Vogue, Elle, Harpers Bazzar, Glamour; campaigns both for famous fashion houses and diversity initiatives aiming to change the narrative of beauty standards in fashion & media.

Mari embarked upon her motherhood journey 2 years ago just at the peak of her career. She is the mama to two handsome boys, 20 months and 3 months. Juggling between motherhood and career, her new and evolving identity has transformed her perspective and outlook on life and has inspired her to help new moms who are experiencing similar challenges as she once did and still does by Co founding Mama Talks NYC, an initiative dedicated to developing a network for mamas challenging the traditional narrative of motherhood. Their primary focus is mama empowerment and intellectual advancement by connecting, inspiring and engaging mamas who desire more from the conventional means through powerful paneled events and intimate weekly discussions. They continue to strive to cultivate an enriching space and community for mamas to engage in thought provoking conversations and talks to stimulate minds and uplift spirits. Mari has always devoted her time advocating for women and children’s rights globally and rising awareness of the deteriorating conditions in her native country.

She attended the University of California Irvine and found her niche in the school’s Public Health program, through which she has always hoped to advocate for and improve the health conditions affecting women and children in developing countries.

Suzie Welsh is an IVF & Fertility Nurse and Founder and CEO of BINTO, a digitally-native women’s health company that connects users to health professionals and personalized, subscription-based OTC supplements and vitamins. BINTO's mission is to redefine women's health journeys - from period to fertility, from pregnancy to menopause - by using preventative medicine, rather than turning to prescription drugs. Welsh holds a BSN from the University of Virginia and a Master’s Degree in Nursing for health leadership from the University of Pennsylvania. She is also an adjunct professor for Villanova University's School of Nursing, and a 200 hour certified yoga instructor.

Lauren Soloman A former Wall Street professional and graduate of Columbia Business School, Lauren boldly transitioned from a decade-long career in Finance and Project Management to a lifetime journey as a certified international yoga instructor, Reiki practitioner and doula. Poised to transform the wellness movement, Lauren has earned 300 hours from the Laughing Lotus Teacher Training program in NYC and India, achieved level I and II Reiki certifications from MINKA Brooklyn and is a certified MamaGlow birth and postpartum doula. Lauren’s devoted leadership and healing contributions to the world empower and serve communities by guiding people on an inward journey to achieve mental clarity, physical strength and holistic well-being.
