Event description

Description

'Loneliness Connects Us' will share the findings from a unique Manchester youth-led co-research project exploring youth loneliness from the perspective of young people. This event is for policy makers, practitioners, academics, young people and members of the public with an interest in reducing youth loneliness and building stronger and more convivial communities. This research speaks to a range of key policy and practice agendas including youth and student mental health and well-being, child sexual exploitation, radicalisation, and youth social action.

Funded by the Co-op Foundation, this research provides young people and those working with them new knowledge and strategies to reduce loneliness and increase belonging and solidarity. The project worked with a group of youth co-researchers from 42nd Street and Manchester Metropolitan University to explore youth loneliness through a range of perspectives and methods, giving diverse perceptions and experiences of youth loneliness in relation to social conditions such as poverty, transitions in life, and relationships of support and connection. The research was developed into an immersive theatre performance 'Missing', that toured the UK.

We will share our findings at this event, and provide you with a set of recommendations for reducing youth loneliness to enable and empower stronger communities.

Nibbles and wine are available from 5pm and the event will start at 5.30pm.

We're also running a Youth Loneliness Summit prior to this meeting from 10am-4pm, follow this link for details.
