Event description

Description

Join us for a lovely walk around the beautiful 'village' of Highgate. This is one of London's most affluent areas and is really lovely at this time of year. We will pass the Flask pub where the spring water from this spa town was bottled and sold to the public, also the Gatehouse where tolls have been collected since the 13th century, plus St Michael's church where the remains of Samuel Taylor Coleridge are laid to rest - he came to Highgate to battle his Opium addiction and never left. We will also see where Francis Bacon met his end at the hands of a frozen chicken!? Also on route we will look into Highgate cemetery where Karl Marx, Alexander Litvinenko, George Elliot, and many other are buried.

The walk is about 3 miles and will take about 1 and a half hours to complete. It is a bit hilly but we will be walking at a leisurely pace. The walk costs £8 with £2 going to a charity for the homeless. We will meet at Highgate tube station. Julian will be your guide - he is a qualified Clerkenwell and Islington guide, is local so has lots of local knowledge and will make your walk entertaining and fun...
