Join us as we learn about the neuroscience of addiction with Devon Collins!

When scientists first began studying addiction, it was widely considered to be the result of moral failing and lack of willpower. Thanks to decades of studying how drugs affect the brain, the way we understand and treat addiction has changed dramatically. Now, we understand that addiction is a chronic, relapsing brain disease that affects both physiology brain function and behavior.

Devon Collins is a graduate student in the Laboratory of the Biology of Addictive Diseases at the Rockefeller University. He will share with us how he and his colleagues study the affect of drugs on the brain and behavior, why it can be so hard to stop using drugs, and how science has made addiction a treatable disease.



This event is open to all high school students in the New York City area, free of charge!

Registrations must be submitted directly by attending high school students and teachers. All students under age 18 must obtain parental consent while completing the online form.

The Lab Out Loud [LOL] lecture series aims to expose high school students to cutting edge research being performed right here in New York City. Students will attend the talk, have a chance to ask questions, and participate in a networking event with other students and scientists in attendance.
