Event description

Description

In an evening of compelling and progressive music, three exciting Liverpool bands each play extended sets that push the barriers of musical genre in unique and indefinable ways:

LOKA

Loka is an ever evolving, compelling and innovative band, drawing on influences from jazz to classical to BBC Radiophonic Workshop to 60s psychedelia and so much more. Having signed to Ninja Tune way back in 2003, Loka released second album Passing Place in 2011, a beautifully dark and disorientating album with haunting vocals and brass interludes.

Loka released their third album
Northern Oscillations in October 2017, featuring the critically acclaimed single Herculaneum Rock. The album takes its influences from a range of diverse topics encompassing the positivity of family, friends, hope and love juxtaposed with the negativity of right wing politics, Brexit, bigotry, war and relationship breakdowns.

AFTER THE FLOOD

Imagine if the world was almost destroyed and there were just a few survivors left. With the goal of building a new positive world from the wreckage of the past what sort of music would surviving musicians make? After the Flood is a conceptual instrumental band hailing from Liverpool, UK featuring guitarist/composers Neil Campbell (Bulbs) and Marty Snape (Zeb/Bulbs), along with Roger Gardiner (Dead Poppies) on Overwater bass, Des Murphy (Zeb) on keys and Norwegian ace Viktor Nordberg on drums. The band create a pan-global music where each musician is an equal part of the whole. After the Flood's music draws on minimalism, folk music, progressive rock, African, Indian and other indigenous musical styles, using polyrhythms, cyclical structures and tight arrangements but allowing pockets of space for improvisation and self-expression.

“Imagine Paul Simon’s Graceland having a musical baby with Yes’s Fragile“- Amy Chidlow, GetIntoThis

“Filled with hypnotic grooves drawn from every corner of the globe this album is an affirmative vision of how cultures might interact once national divisions are abandoned after a catastrophic flood.” - The Musician

GORP

After a hiatus of around four years GORP return to the stage with a biting sound that combines the energy of punk with the intricacy and intent of prog. In the words of Andy Wilson, liverpoolmusic.com: 'searching and inspirational, GORP is not looking to be the next music industry packet of cornflakes. What they are is a tight unit of musicians enjoying what they do but approaching their work with a real purpose and sincerity not often seen in this business.'.
