Logs to Lustrons Tour
Sun, May 14, 2017, 8:30 AM – 2:00 PM CDT
Do you favor rustic landmarks, like early log structures? Or are you a fan of Mid-Century Modern-style houses? Either way, we’ve got you covered on our May 13-14, 2017, Logs to Lustrons tour. Indiana Landmarks and the National Park Service (NPS) team up to present a dozen landmarks spanning a century of architecture in the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore, including restored residences not normally open to the public and vacant landmarks in need of a new use. Eight interiors will be open for touring.
For the tour on May 13 or 14, you’ll ride a shuttle that departs from the Indiana Dunes Visitor Center to a dozen sites that date from the mid-nineteenth to mid-twentieth centuries—log structures from early settlement days, frame homes from the Victorian period, and mid-century homes of glass, stucco and metal.
Consider spending the weekend exploring this distinctive part of the state by attending a reception and illustrated talk on Friday, May 12. The evening begins with refreshments at 7 p.m., followed at 7:30 by talks from three experts. A brief reception concludes the event by 9 p.m. For $5, Logs, Glass & Metal: A Century of Architectural Legacy will guide you through the different architecture styles you'll experience on the tour. The talk will also help you determine the sites on tour where you may want to spend the most time. The circulating bus service allows you to stay for shorter or longer periods at each stop, depending on your interest!
To register for the talk, please visit https://logstolustronstalk17.eventbrite.com
Please note, you have to sign up for the tour before you can sign up for Friday's reception.
