Event description

Description

Learn to cook new dishes in a fun and casual setting with Local Roots NYC! You'll learn how to prepare a seasonal farm-to-table dinner in groups, basic knife skills, and tips on how to add variation to the same dish so leftovers always feel new and exciting. The evening will end by sharing the meal we created together. Participants will walk away with recipe cards for the night's dishes, an opportunity to meet other like-minded individuals, and an immersive culinary experience. There will be only 12 available spaces. Complimentary wine is included.

The menu will be inspired by seasonal items from Local Roots NYC farms and producers and will be announced shorly.

Menu
subject to slight changes
- Eggplant caponata with fried eggplant balls
- Seasonal Fall salad
- Escarole and cannellini beans and burst tomato
- Braised chicken over polenta

Cooking Level: Beginner and Medium
What People Are Saying: "I learned so much at the Local Roots Cooking Club - it's different than any other cooking class I've taken because of the fun people I met, the emphasis on who grew the ingredients we were working with, and simple, creative and approachable dishes. I prioritize good food in my life now because I've learned skills to make seasonal dishes at home and realize how much fun cooking can be."

We believe cooking with local ingredients is a way to strengthen our connection with our food, farms, land, people, community, and culture. Most importantly, cooking should really BE FUN.

About the Cooking Leader
Luke Krisch worked his way from the bottom up like soil to fruit, from busboy to Culinary Educator at Eataly. He was a co-founder of the reopening of the 25 year old institution, Once Upon a Tart in SoHo, and currently is a partner and manager at Ost Cafe in the LES. He is an avid cyclist and naturalist where he has led bike tours all around North America providing gourmet meals in harmony with the region, as well as treating every trip like an immersion course in local food and styles.

About the Space
Brooklyn FoodWorks is a food incubator and shared commercial kitchen, currently home to about 100 early stage food businesses housed inside an old pharmaceutical building that takes up an entire city block. These include packaged goods, caterers, bakers, or really any type of food company, all of whom use our space to produce their food product. The event space is a state of the art kitchen including an 18 burner range, double stack convection oven, grill, 3 piece sink, fridge and prep tables.
