Local Foods for Local Tables Symposium:

Engaging in Urban "Agvocacy" to promote a Sustainable Food System


Join together with others from the Omaha community who are focused on building a healthy future based in locally grown foods. Have your voice heard when it comes to important issues such as city urban agriculture policies, agricultural education, food access and equity, environmental quality, and urban agriculture as an economic driver. Find ways that you or your organization can join with others to grow a bright future with local foods.

The day will be filled with town hall and round table discussions where your input on local foods is valued. The day will start with a keynote address from Ken Meter, one of the most experienced and respected food system analysts in the United States.

This event is free (including the local foods lunch). Registration is open to those who want to make a difference in the local food system and urban agriculture community: producers, advocates, local leaders, organizers, and consumers!

Draft Schedule:

  • 9:00 am - Welcome and Introduction

  • 10:00 am - Keynote: Ken Meter - The Economics Local Foods

  • 11:15 am - Town Hall: Heartland 2050 and Local Foods

  • 11:45 am - Town Hall: Proposed Urban Ag Ordinance Model for Metro communities

  • 12:15 pm - Local Foods Lunch

  • 1:15 pm - Ignite Sessions: short stories of success and opportunity

  • 2:00 pm - Urban Ag Roundtables: STEAM Education, Food Access, Envirnonment, Economics

  • 3:00 pm - General Session: Report from the Roundtables

  • 3:30 pm - Post-Symposium Sip and Learn: Value Added Products from Local Hops Production

The Local Foods for Local Tables Symposium is hosted and led by a coalition of educational institutions and community organizations that focus on improving local food production and consumption and food access. The organizaitons are
