Event description

Description

Learn the art of making your own mozzarella (as well as burrata and other popular pasta filata cheeses)!

Caputo Brothers Creamery is a small creamery located in Spring Grove, PA. The owners, Dave & Rynn Caputo, quit their jobs and traveled all over Italy learning learning about food, wine and culture. They also studied the traditional art of cheesemaking from caseficio owners in southern Italy. They took their love of all things Italian home and opened their own creamery in their farmhouse in 2011 - naming it "Caputo Brothers" after their two young sons. Today, the creamery is a booming local business that sources milk from local dairy farmers all over the PA area (it is "the curd that saves the herd") and produces curds (for making mozzarella) as well as a a remarkable line-up of their own hand-made cheeses!

Join Chef Andrea Carbine - who has worked with the Caputo family and their cheeses for over 8 years - to learn more about the traditional methods employed to create the only cultured cheese curds sold in the United States. During the class we will pull a traditional "fior di late" or mozzarella cheese - as well as make straciatella, burrata, and discuss other pasta filata cheeses that can be made from the curds.

The class includes: tasting samples, demo, and one glass of wine (or non-alcoholic option)!

*Additional beverages, as well as take-home curds will be available for purchase!
