About this event
Michael H. Shuman, community economist and author of Put Your Money Where Your Life Is, will teach grassroots investors how to put their savings to work locally, show businesses how to raise capital from their communities, and help policymakers create vibrant and resilient local economies.
Americans now have about $56 trillion in stocks, bonds, mutual funds, pension funds, and insurance instruments -- nearly all of it invest in global corporations. If they could shift even a small amount of that capital from Wall Street to Main Streets, Washington State's local economies could flourish, generating wealth and jobs that would stay in state. This workshop is designed to hep community leaders, personally and collectively, achieve this vision by developing practical investment strategies.
This workshop series aims to help participants answer three basic questions:
- How can I help rebuild my community and its economy after the ravages of COVID-19?
- How can I make my community more resilient to prepare for future global crises that will come from new pandemics, climate disruption, and economic collapse?
- How can I move my money into the businesses, projects, and people I love -- and out of the Wall Street "casino"?
The workshop consists of15 video lessons and worksheets. Course materials will be available to registrants for 180 days.
This workshop series is in partnership with Neighborhood Associates.
