About this event
Do you find the news on immigration policy too complex to follow? What were the accomplishments and missed opportunities of the past Congress? What chances are there for reforms in the new Congress? What are the biggest issues at the San Diego border, what are the current conditions there and how are local non-profits responding? How has the uncertainty around Title 42 affected asylum seekers?
The Immigration Committee of the League of Women Voters of San Diego has invited professionals with deep experience on immigration to speak at a Zoom webinar on Wednesday, January 25th at 5:30pm.
Apolonio (Polo) Morales is the Director of External Affairs of the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights (CHIRLA). CHIRLA is a national organization based in Los Angeles County that works to build power, transform public opinion, and change policies to achieve full human, civil and labor rights for immigrants. Polo will address the status of national immigration policy and the strategy for the new Congress.
Chris Olsen is the Chief of Staff for Jewish Family Service of San Diego. He is responsible for all immigration policy and advocacy work at a non-profit that is extensively involved with migrants and refugees at the San Diego border. He will discuss the current conditions on the border and the local response.
Jesse Imbriano is the Legal Director of the Casa Cornelia Law Center which provides pro bono legal services to victims of human and civil rights violations, particularly asylum seekers in San Diego. He will discuss current key issues in the asylum process and cases that Casa Cornelia currently sees in San Diego.
