Overview
Liz Carr Delivers the Ruth Lecture
Join us for a captivating online event where Liz Carr will be delivering the second annual Ruth Lecture. Liz will be talking about her activism on the subject of assisted suicide, and the intersections with crime and abuse against disabled people. The event will be signed.
Liz Carr is a disabled activist and actor perhaps best known for playing Clarissa Mullery in BBC’s forensic drama, Silent Witness. Other TV and film credits are available.
In 2022, Liz won an Olivier Award for her performance in Larry Kramer's The Normal Heart at the National Theatre. Her character was based on real life wheelchair using doctor, Linda Laubenstein. Liz was the first disabled actor to professionally play this role.
And last year, as a long term campaigner on the issue, Liz authored a BBC documentary, Better Off Dead? exploring hers and many other disabled peoples’ opposition to assisted suicide. Grierson nominated and RTS winning, it's still available on iPlayer if you fancy a watch: https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m001z8wc/better-off-dead.
The event will take place on Zoom as a webinar. Details will be shared the week of the event. This is a free event, but donations to cover costs would be very welcome: Donate to Stay Safe East - Stay Safe East | Stay Safe East
