LIVRO DAS CORES / BOOK OF COLORS: 4pm Pre-Talk, 5pm Concert

The SD Master Chorale proudly presents the world premiere of Marcos Balter's original Portuguese version of "Livro das Cores / Book of Colors," commissioned in celebration of the Chorale's 60th season. Also, beautiful works by Johannes Brahms, Morten Lauridsen, Joel Thompson, and San Diego-based composer Jordan Kuspa.

Conducted by Dr. John K. Russell.

Portions of this evening's program will have piano accompaniment by Bryan Verhoye.

4pm PRE-CONCERT TALK with Music Director John K. Russell

Arrive an hour before the concert to hear about this evening's program, which Dr. Russell built around Livro das Cores, a new a cappella creation by Brazilian-American composer Marcos Balter, with text by Portuguese author Fernando Pessoa (1888 – 1935).

Marcos Balter was on the faculty of UC San Diego before becoming the Fritz Reiner Professor of Musical Composition at Columbia University in New York City. Balter was honored in January as one of the Washington Post's 22 for 22: Composers and performers to watch this year.

Marcos Balter was unable to travel from New York to attend the pre-concert talk, but it still promises to be fascinating.
