Description

This is a time when each day brings new information that grabs our attention and reveals the brokenness of our world. We are bombarded with the needs of those who are denied justice, healing, and the simple milk of human kindness. It is beautiful that we are moved with compassion, but sometimes it reaches to the point of fatigue, and frustration that we cannot do more. In the middle of it all, how can we, as people who follow Jesus Christ, remain effective and present? Christ's disciples faced similar challenges. Jesus offers a path forward by calling them to come away and rest. This Sunday, we will explore together what that could mean for us 2000 years later as CDSP Seminarian Andrea Arsene preaches. Join us for progressive theology, healing prayer, and anointing with holy oil.

Our guest preacher: Andrea Arsene is a seminarian from CDSP, anticipating her middler year this September. She was born and raised on the East Coast, came west with her family for college and later, married and started a family of her own. Although the marriage ended, she is profoundly grateful for the daughter of that union, a daughter of whom she is unabashedly proud.

Due to her mother’s passionate love for Jesus, Andrea was raised in numerous Christian faith sectors including Lutheran, A. M. E., Holiness, and non- denominational groups where she was a licensed minister for 10 years. Over time, she began questioning her faith framework, and after much prayer and seeking, discovered the Episcopal Church as the best way to serve God and others while exploring her questions and faith together. Active as a lay person in the Altar Guild, Laundry Love and Daughters of the King, the pull of clerical ministry returned and she entered the discernment process in her home parish of St. Paul’s in Pomona, California, where the call was affirmed. Leaving her career as a registered nurse, she began work on her M.Div. She is presently a postulant for Holy Orders to the Priesthood in the Diocese of Los Angeles. She is most appreciative of the opportunities to serve God’s beloved ones, and will likely stop whatever she’s doing for a good cup of tea.
