DESCRIPTION
Expect nothing, Seek nothing, Grasp nothing." Dogen Zenji
A Journey of Compassion: from the Conceptual Mind to the Intuitive Heart.
The Heart Sutra offers a vital portal into navigating a world in great turmoil by pointing beyond the "walls of the mind" to understanding that "all things are resident in our one awareness." To seeing that our multiple crises is actually fuelled by a spiritual crisis. We have simply lost our way because we don't know who we are or how to live within an ensouled world where everything is profoundly inter-related.
As our old world collapses there is an imperative to shift from old patterns of thinking, that continually generate our painful separation to trusting an altogether different dimension of our being. Underwriting the radical -- returning to the root -- new human story crying out to fully born, is this necessary radical shift of consciousness.
This is a shift into the direct, intuitive knowing that is Prajna-Paramita, the perfection of wisdom that the Heart Sutra inducts us into. A knowing from un-knowing, from an unwinding out of the matrix of the conditioned conceptual mind. This, as said in the Sutra, is "leaving dream thinking far behind."
This teaching, attributed to Avalokitesvara or Kuan Yin, is one of the pearls of Buddhist transmission due to the immediacy of its alignment with the ever present Living Dharma. It cuts through views and encourages a deep trust in the heart's own knowing.
We look forward to exploring this radical text, its core practice, and its resonances into the Pali Cannon's recording of the Buddha's teaching on the direct realization of the Amata - deathless - Dhamma.
Ultimately, the ever-alive immanence of the Heart Sutra reflects the radiancy, freedom, beauty, unexpected unfolding, joyful fearlessness of our own nature.
The day will complete with the Kuan Yin Compassion Ceremony for transmuting obstructive karma into the force of the compassionate Bodhicitta intention to relieve suffering, wherever and however it manifests.
