This presentation is brought to you as a local collaboration by Ventura County Medical Center (VCMC) Palliative Care Team, Ventura County Palliative Partnership & Ventura County Coalition of Compassionate Care.

Ira Byock, MD is a leading palliative care physician, author and public advocate for improving care through the end-of-life.

He is Founder and Chief Medical Officer of the Institute for Human Caring of Providence Health and Services based in Torrance, CA. The institute advances efforts to measure, monitor and improve person-centered care system wide and supports culturally diverse communities in expanding models of care.

Dr. Byock is Professor of Medicine and Community and Family Medicine at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth. He served as Director of Palliative Medicine at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire from 2003 to 2013

Dr. Byock’s first book, Dying Well (1997) has become a core reading on the subject. The Best Care Possible, his most recent book tackles the crisis that surrounds serious illness and dying in America and his quest to transform care through the end-of-life. He has been the recipient of numerous awards for academic achievement and community service. He has been a featured guest on national television and radio including NPR, Talk of the Nation and CBS 60 minutes.
