Living Rightly, Sustaining Lives

Facing the Environmental Challenges of Our Time

A Quaker weekend from the afternoon of Thursday 22nd August to midday Sunday 25th August 2019, with camping until Monday. Friends (Quakers) are invited to join us in the South West, camping and living simply on a farm as we explore our Quaker responses to the environmental crisis. What might living in closer harmony with the Earth mean for ourselves and for our wider communities?

We are creating an exciting opportunity to come together to share learning, strengthen connections and nurture community in an “all-age” programme. Spiritual, practical and creative elements will seek to connect us to the truths of our time, finding out the different ways we can act on climate emergency issues while feeling energised and uplifted. There will be opportunities for workshops, camp-fire conversations, song and dance, craft, playfulness and walks. The weekend will offer tangible actions and new insights that individuals can share with their local meetings and with other people.

Off-grid camping: we will be setting up a temporary “off-grid” campsite; you will need to bring your own sleeping tent and bedding, and a torch. There will be compost toilets and camping-style showers.

For non-camping Friends, local B & B is available, and day visitors will be welcome on any of the days. We will cook communally and will ask you to join in with the food preparation and clearing up, please.

Bursaries are available from Devon & Cornwall Gathering Arrangements funds: please contact Pip Harris (piph@quaker.org.uk) 07422 973 089 and she will get in touch to help you book.

Getting there: To help the environment, please try to use public transport or share a car. Redruth station is 7 miles away from the farm. The farm is on a bus route, and a shuttle car will help you if required.

More details:
Once your booking is confirmed, we shall get back to you and help you with all your detailed requirements connected with diet, disabilities, children and collection from the station. Remember, the person dealing with the bookings and your enquiries is a volunteer, so please try not to ask too many questions before we send the information out.
