Living In a MeTOO World: Professional Development Training is a survivor-expert led conference providing education to increase the knowledge of the individual attendees, & increase prevention in childhood sexual abuse and domestic violence. SUSO-NC believes in order to decrease any form of abuse, first one must be aware of the problem that exist in epidemic proportions. The purpose of this training conference is to offer preventive measures through awareness in three areas, Understanding Societal Responsibility of Childhood Sexual Abuse, Exploring New Approaches to Preventing Domestic Violence & Sexual Abuse, and Evaluating New Systems to Responding to Childhood Sexual Abuse. The conference is a public event, but will be offered specifically to professionals who work with children and victims directly or indirectly. SUSO-NC would like to use this conference to begin collaboration with other professionals and community agencies in shifting changes in policies and systems related to domestic violence and childhood sexual abuse.

We have 3 dynamic professional experts and speakers Dr. Shanita Brown, Dr. Rae Lundy, and Dr. Angelia Riggsbee. In addition to our speakers we will have 6 professional advocates and survivors as a part of our Survivor Panelist to share real life experiences and long term impact of abuse. Panelist include Tina Bailey, author, life coach, and survivor, James Bright, male advocate and survivor, Brian Cardoza, author and male survivor, Shareka Dunston, youth advocate and survivor, Tamieka Smith, author and survivor, and Emily Malloy, advocate and survivor.

Who Should Attend? Anyone who cares for or work with children or victims of abuse. Anyone interesting in learning more about this topic. Mental Health Providers, Social Workers, , Teachers, Childcare Providers, Pastors, Ministry Leaders, Advocates, or Parents.

Dr. Shanita Brown
Conference Topic: #Metoo & Faith Communities: An Integrated Approach to helping Survivors of Sexual Violence

Dr. Brown is an counselor educator, speaker, therapist and advocate that believe in fostering transformative and empowering dialogue about violence against women and mental health wellness. Dr. Brown received her Ph.D in Counselor Education & Counseling from North Carolina State University. Dr. Brown has over 10 years of experience in the clinical mental health field working in a variety of settings, including private practice and community mental health agencies;, and serves on the board of directors of the NC Coalition Against Sexual Assault. She is a servant leader and passionate about disseminating her scholarship and clinical experience in a variety of ways to increase awareness about violence against women and influence the next generation of advocates and leaders.

Dr. Rae Lundy-The Self Care Doc
Conference Topic: Nurturing Child Victims After Sexual Abuse "The Body Keeps Score"

Healthy Hearts Counseling & Coaching' was developed by Dr. Raé Nicole Lundy, clinical psychologists and diversity/inclusion specialist.

After years of working with young people in higher education, Dr. Raé Nicole designed a self-care model of services encouraging individuals to invest time and attention into their mental health. Her work is comprised of methods that decrease stress and guard against mental fatigue.

Dr. Raé's experience has taken her across the country as a public speaker engaging audiences around topics such as Mental Health Stigma, Trauma Recovery, Self-Care Empowerment and Diversity. She also specializes in self-care techniques that support the LGBTQ+ community and provides workshops that incorportate inclusive practices and help to facilitate cultural identity awareness. The insights she acquired have inspired Dr. Raé Nicole to cultivate the identity and forum known as The Self Care Doc.

This platform represents the passion of one individual whose research and clinical experiences have led her to develop a vision that benefits us all: self-care is the future of mental health! Dr. Raé's goal is to remind us that caring for ourselves in a way that supports a dynamic mindset, creates the necessary space to live a healthier lifestyle.

Dr. Angelia Riggsbee

_Conference Topic:_ Domestic Violence Advocacy "The Impact Domestic Violence has on Children"

Dr. Angelia Riggsbee is a 25 year survivor of domestic violence who has turned her pain into passion for helping other victims and survivors. Her beamish passion is her bright, cheerful and optimistic assignment to help others break the cycle of abuse. As an Accounting Management Professional and College Instructor, she decided to pursue the highest level of education by merging her expertise in business and domestic violence to successfully defend her doctoral dissertation entitled “Examining Perceptions of Domestic Violence and the Effects on the Workplace: A Synthesis of Selected Companies in North Carolina”.

Dr. Riggsbee’s fascinating work in her dissertation brings awareness to Corporate America, Organizations, and the Communities as a whole on the effects of domestic violence in the workplace. As a result of her research, companies have developed domestic violence policies and internal training programs in addition to bringing awareness to the subject of domestic violence. As a result of Dr. Riggsbee's passion and fascinating work, HAD Healing After Domestic Violence (501C3) and HAD Consulting, LLC. were birthed.
