Description

Living Faith Gatherings

are an initiative of New England Yearly Meeting of Friends (NEYM) bringing together Quakers from across our region to nourish our faith, grow our communities, and strengthen our witness. It's an experiment with a new way of connecting Friends in New England—thanks for joining us on this journey!

We are so excited you are joining us for this Living Faith Gathering. If you have been to past Gatherings, we want to share with you about how this one will be a little bit different. If this is your first Living Faith, we are so looking forward to welcoming you.

Thie year's event will be held just out side New Bedford, Mass at Friends Academy.

At both the spring 2018 Living Faith and Sessions, we heard the need for more spaciousness and less busy-ness. We heard requests for workshops that are deeply spiritually grounded, and we heard the need for increased attention to welcoming new Friends and strengthening the connections between us all. We also heard the body's growing desire to more fully live into our minutes on climate justice and challenging white supremacy.

Through worship reflecting the diversity of Quaker practice in New England, inspiring speakers, and experiential workshops, Living Faith Gatherings nourish our spirits and strengthen our ability to live our faith through action.

The day will open and close with programming for all generations, allowing us to be together as a multi-generational community. A concurrent youth program will explore these same themes in ways accessible to kids. Families with young children are especially encouraged to attend.

Note for teenage attenders (13 and up): You should register for both a morning program and a workshop of your choice. Junior-high-age Friends are welcome to attend the youth program or participate in the adult program. High-school-age Friends participate in the adult program or can volunteer to staff the youth program

Note for Young Adult Friends (ages 18-35): Want to make a weekend out of it? On April 5-7th, there will be a weekend-long retreat for young adults interested in attending Living Faith as well as spending time with other Quaker young adults. More information here.

The Living Faith Gathering will take place on April 6 at Friends Academy

Advance registration is required, so if you're planning to attend, please register as soon as possible to help us create the best experience we can for all of us.

BEFORE YOU REGISTER:

  • You will be given a choice of paying on line, paying by check, or paying at the door

  • If you have questions or have problems registering, please contact the Events Coordinator at NEYM Office (740-478-2537) or events@neym.org.

Just click the green "Register" button in the upper-right of this page to begin.

We want to make sure there is plenty of room at each Living Faith Gathering for Friends from the nearby area.

How are the fees determined? What is this "Pay-As-Led approach" I've heard about?

New England Yearly Meeting of Friends is committed to making the life of our faith communities more accessible and removing barriers to participation whenever possible, and to offering a wider welcome to those seeking nourishment in the Quaker tradition.

In keeping with our commitment to removing barriers to participation for Friends regardless of financial means, the Living Faith Gatherings will continue our experiment with the Pay-As-Led approach to event fees.

Here's how it works (with your help, and the guidance of the Spirit):

During registration you will be presented with three options for payment:

  • Called to Equalize: calculated to cover the full costs of the events and supports the attendance of others. Includes a tax deductible gift for Equalization to support others' attendance.
  • Traditional Fee: calculated to cover direct costs for the event (including food, childcare, insurance, etc.)
  • Complete Cost: calculated to include direct costs and the additional costs of staff time related to planning and running the event
  • Limited Income Fee: A rate half of the complete cost and offering a guide for those who can't pay as much this time due to their circumstances, but want to pay a set price.

Note: There is a similar set of three tiered options for children. We're deliberately keeping the cost for children low to facilitate the participation of families with young children. Parents can opt to pay $0 for children as well, if needed.

We then ask you to prayerfully consider your available financial resources and the value you place on this opportunity to gather with the wider spiritual community of New England Friends.

Based on this personal reflection, we invite you to pay what you feel led and able to pay to attend the event—that's it.

If you are indeed unable to pay anything at this time, you will have an option to pay $0 to attend this event, as with Annual Sessions. For those with greater financial resources, you may make a tax-deductible donation to support the attendance of others with more limited means and the wider ministries of New England Friends by visiting neym.org/donate.
