Event description

Description

Algae are our main oxygen producers on earth. They exist in nearly every ecosystem and contribute to the most fundamental biological processes on our planet. How can we as a society approach these living organisms beyond a mere scientific understanding but through their economic, political and artistic potential?

STATE Studio presents the project Living Canvas composed of an art installation and the workshop Algature by artist and designer Fara Peluso. Over the past few months, she worked closely with Solaga, a Berlin-based startup specializing in using algae for a range of sustainable design systems. Fara Peluso contextualizes the proven effective CO2 assimilation of algal organisms and Solaga's innovative biotechnology as an artist in a speculative design object. The artwork cultivates an energy-generating algae biofilm in a wall-mounted installation, growing and metamorphosing in real-time.

The exhibition project encourages the fresh air breathing viewers as participants to reflect upon regenerative potentials and also to personally contribute to an active turn towards more sustainable possible futures.
