Living an Antifragile Life: Getting Stronger through Chaos - ii Salon
Event Information
About this Event
"If 2020 has taught us anything, it's that life comes at you fast. Remember when we thought the Australian bushfires were going to be the biggest event of the year? It's enough to make you wonder what 2021 will have in store...
Given that we live in a time of rapid, unpredictable change—often for the worse, it seems—how do we live our best lives? Was Robert Burns right in warning us that our best-laid plans are doomed to go 'agley'?! (Not to mention those of our mice!)
Maverick intellectual Nassim Taleb has an answer for us. We needn't hide under the covers in the face of chaos and uncertainty, or wail when our predictions fail to materialise. No, instead we just need to live in a way that profits from the turbulence. We need to become ANTIFRAGILE.
Antifragile is his own neologism, an attempt to fill a linguistic void. Something that is merely 'robust' doesn't enjoy chaos, it just weathers it. We want our lives to become better when unexpected events occur, not just to dig our heels in and try to hold on to what we have.
So how do we do that? How do we make the important parts of our lives—our work, relationships, finances, living situation, sense of self—antifragile, so that they emerge from the whirlwind stronger and better?
Join us at this Salon to discuss and work this out together!" - Salon Host Daniel Thomason
