Event Information
Description
The Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law is proud to co-host this event with Howard University's School of Social Work.
Hate crimes are not new in America - They have been occurring since before our country’s founding. Yet, African Americans are the most frequent victims of hate crimes. From slavery to post reconstruction and the civil rights movement to today – African Americans remain the plurality of all hate crimes reported.
Join us for a conversation with Airicka Gordon-Taylor, cousin of Emmett Till and President of the Mamie Till Mobley Foundation, and Louvon Byrd Harris, sister of James Byrd, Jr. and President of the Byrd Foundation for Racial Healing, as we discuss the historic impact of hate crimes and uplift the lives and legacies of Emmett Till and James Byrd, Jr.
Featuring Kristen Clarke, President and Executive Director of the Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, and Danielle Holley-Walker, Dean of Howard University School of Law.
RSVP Required.
