Professor Caroline Wilkinson in Conversation with Jane and Louise Wilson
Face Scripting: What Did the Building See ? 2011 (Courtesy the artists and Paradise Row)
Jane and Louise Wilson are identical twin sisters, who form an art partnership. They live and work in London and were nominated for the Turner Prize in 1999. In 1989 Louise graduated with a BA Fine Art from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in Dundee and Jane graduated with a BA Fine Art from Newcastle Polytechnic. For their degree show they submitted identical pieces of work as photographs where they appeared to be murdering each other. Together they have created a number of influential exhibitions including ‘Undead Sun’ at the Imperial War Museum, London 2014-15 and ‘Suspended Time’ at Fundacao Calouste Gulbenkian, Lisbon 2010. Their works ‘Blind Landings (H-bomb Test Site, Orford Ness) #1-6’ are in the collection and on display at Tate Britain.
Professor Caroline Wilkinson, Director of Liverpool School of Art & Design, has an on-going collaboration with Jane and Louise through a shared interest in forensic investigation, faces and identity. This event mirrors a public event at the Southbank Centre from 2012 called ‘Jane and Louise Wilson in conversation with Caroline Wilkinson’.
Caroline will invite Jane and Louise to discuss their artistic practice and the influences and challenges through their career, and the artists will share some of their artwork with the audience. This event is in parallel with the Liverpool School of Art & Design Degree Show 27 May- 10 June 2016.
