Event description

Description

Hannibal holds a special place in Fierke’s heart as it's where she would come to from the big city as a very young girl to play in the woods, sled on serious snow, and where her appreciation for jazz was kindled by the music her grandparents, Jack and Phyllis Fierke, loved. Fierke has been looking forward to stretching her musical legs beyond the Columbia MO area and she and her trio are thrilled to be coming to Hannibal. Prepare to be treated to what jazz vocalist Jane Monheit called “a mixture of innocence and maturity that is both lovely and unique to her age.” Clips of her performances, upcoming and past events, as well as all her social links can be found on her website samdoesjazz.com.

Samantha Fierke, a 17-year old singer songwriter from Columbia, Missouri, has loved music her entire life and in 2017 she set her sights on pursuing it at a more serious level. Under the guidance of Loyd Warden of A Frame Recording she has collaborated with many talented local musicians and by the summer of 2018 had recorded and released her debut EP simply titled “Sam,” including her version of Chet Baker’s rendition of “Almost Blue.” She has been going strong ever since - performing live, writing and recording her own songs for her next EP, travelling to learn from great artists like Jane Monheit, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Amy Curnow, Oleta Adams, Gretchen Parlato, and Taylor Eigsti. This summer she’ll be attending the Stanford Jazz Institute Vocal Workshop and submitting recordings to be considered for the 2019 Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Competition.

The trio accompanying Fierke includes Sam Luetkemeyer (piano/vocals), Cole Kieffer (bass) and Loyd Warden (drums). Fierke and her trio entertains audiences with funk, blues, soul, R&B and pop, but what she loves most – where she really shines – is Jazz - ballads, sambas, bossa novas, big band, swing, and bebop. She studies the greats of the past as well as current – Ella Fitzgerald, John Coltrane, Chick Corea, Jane Monheit, Esperanza Spalding, Gretchen Parlato, Aretha Franklin, Amy Winehouse, Nina Simone and Al Jarreau.
