PIZZA MAN
Written by Darlene Craviotto
Directed by Jamie Lou
Featuring Raleigh West, Emma Chandler and Freddy Giorlando
Produced by Grafton Doyle and Melanie Weisner

It's 1985 and it's a hot summer night in LA. Step on in to Julie and Alice's Hollywood apartment loft as you become immersed in the story of their lives! Witness their hilarious drama as they deal with the total jerks of their time. Julie's boss made a pass at her that she rejected, so now Julie is without a job, broke, disillusioned, and drinking. Her roommate, Alice, is at an equally low point coping with romantic troubles. This pair of LA women decide to take revenge on the patriarchy, order a pizza, and attempt to kidnap the pizza man! Share some pizza, have a drink, and sit with us as this crazy night unfolds.

Boiler plate:

Pop Up Theater LA was founded in 2014 by a group of artists who realized that exciting theater in LA needed attention and so created a company that brings immersive and interactive performances to the audience. It is a unique theater experience combining the intimacy of film with the power of live performance. We bring life to non-traditional performance spaces that embody the character of the work and make both site and audience part of the story.

Pop Up Theater LA has performed at The Beverly Hills Hotel, The Palm Springs Art Museum, SpaceBohemia, Bunker Hill Towers in DTLA, The Culver Studios, and for non-profits such as The Actors Fund and Palm Springs Photography Council.

About the creative team and cast:

Darlene Craviotto, playwright:

Darlene Craviotto has worked professionally in the entertainment industry for over twenty-five years. After starring opposite Don Knotts in the play, A GOOD LOOK AT BONEY KEARNS and co-starring with Bibi Anderson and Kathleen Quinlan in the film, I NEVER PROMISED YOU A ROSE GARDEN, the debilitating effects of a car accident made her switch from acting to screenwriting. She wrote Hallmark Hall of Fame's LOVE IS NEVER SILENT, which won an EMMY for Outstanding Television Movie. Her feature film, SQUANTO: A WARRIOR'S TALE, a Walt Disney Film, garnered a Teddy Award for Best Family Film. Her award-winning play, PIZZA MAN, has been performed all over the world. Ms. Craviotto is married, has two children, and lives in Santa Barbara, California.

Jamie Lou, director:

Jamie’s films and web series’ have been in festivals around the globe. Her one-act play, “Let’s Have a Baby,” was produced as part of the women’s playwright festival, She Wrights, at the Secret Rose Theatre in North Hollywood, CA. Lady Bits, Jamie’s online sketch comedy channel, has one goal: to “change the world, one vagina joke at a time.” Her latest sketch series, “Vageniuses,” was recognized at Raindance Webfest in London, the Chicago Comedy Film Festival, the Broad Humor Film Festival (where she won the Artisan Award), and the Albuquerque Film Festival. Jamie has two screenplays in development: a comedy based on her web series, Vageniuses, and Lady Lazarus, a dramedy which placed in the top 15% at the Academy Nicholl Screenwriting Fellowship in 2017.

Jamie’s mission is to tell the unique stories of those who are under-represented in film and television. Her goal is to heal herself and others through story. She is honored to work with Pop Up Theatre Inc. and with the incredible cast of this production.

Raleigh West:

Raleigh is an actress/writer/producer and owner of Wild Mountain Features. She’s grateful to be a company member of Pop Up Theatre where she played Becky Shaw in their 2016 production of Becky Shaw, and she’s thrilled to be back working with them on Pizza Man. Best Actress Winner at The Broad Humor Film Festival for her web series Vageniuses (also wrote/produced), Best Actress in a Web Series Winner 2014 Chicago Comedy Film Festival for her web series Or the Burrito Gets It! (also wrote/produced). Raleigh considers her biggest accomplishment to date not being able to tell she’s vegan by her Facebook posts.

Freddy Giorlando:

Fredy Giorlando is an actor and producer. After working 8 years in New York he has recently moved to Los Angeles this past year. He is currently pitching his show Adulthood to networks, a television pilot he acted in and co-produced. His past credits include working on the HBO show Vinyl directed by Martin Scorsese & the Off Broadway Production of the Slums Of Neverland. Pizza Man is his first production with Pop Up Theatre Inc. Freddy is super grateful for the opportunity to work on this story would such amazing people and would like to thank all his family, friends and girlfriend for their continued support.

Emma Chandler:

Emma Chandler is thrilled to be playing Julie in her first Pop Up Theatre Inc. production. Originally from Pasadena, CA Emma has been acting in Los Angeles for over 10 years and graduated from the University of Southern California where she received her B.A. in Theatre. When she’s not playing a woman on the verge of a nervous breakdown, Emma can be found obsessing over cats and eating Chipotle…although now that sounds very similar. Her favorite roles include Puck in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Texas in Cabaret, and Ivy Smith in On The Town. She dedicates this performance to anyone who has ever felt helpless or taken advantage of.
