About this event
At thirteen, Ed Cohen was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease—a chronic, incurable condition that nearly killed him in his early twenties. His doctors told him that the best he could hope for was periods of remission, never mentioning healing as a possibility. Cohen considers how Western medicine's turn from an "art of healing" toward a "science of medicine" deeply affects both medical practitioners and their patients. With his new book, On Learning to Heal, Cohen shares his coming-of-age story as a young, gay man with Crohn's and advocates reviving healing's role for all those whose lives are touched by illness. Join us at our Fort Greene store for an evening of conversation and connection alongside a very special guest, Emily Lim Rogers!
