Live Art Demo with Amy Stewart: Drawing & Painting Butterflies
Event Information
About this event
Welcome to my monthly free live art demos! These are relaxed, informal, hour-long live drawing and painting sessions. Each month, the group decides what we'll draw next.
This month we're doing BUTTERFLIES! We're going to fill a page with loose, abstract monarch butterflies, done very simply with watercolor and ink. These make lovely greeting cards, gift tags, or little frameable works of art, and it's a great way to play around and loosen up.
SUPPLIES
I'll be working in watercolor, and I might use a Uni Posca white paint pen for a few highlights
For ink, you could use my favorite, the Pentel Pocket Brush Pen, or any kind of black marker with a brush tip. It won't matter whether the ink is water-soluble or not, because we'll do watercolor first and then ink.
Plan on having a good-sized sheet of watercolor paper ready to go, such as 9x12, or several small sheets. Just make sure the paper is labeled for watercolor.
I'll also have a pencil and eraser for making the preliminary sketch.
If you'd like to know more about all the art supplies I use, here's a list.
This event will be live captioned using Zoom's automated captioning service.
REFERENCE PHOTOS
Scroll down to see a photo collage of copyright-free images we will work from for this demo. You might want to download these and have them printed or on a computer screen ahead of time. You are also welcome to use your own images of butterflies!
If you would rather download each photo individually, you can download them from this Google Photos folder.
