CHRONICLES: Foundational Narratives

This semester-length, college-prep course will help students learn valuable lessons through in-depth studies of literature, supplemented by music, film and art. Students will read significant narratives, engage with important ideas, gain essential composition skills, and write a full-length response to literature essay.

NEW FOR THIS SEMESTER! Chronicles has a one hour/week writing component, to support students as they learn advanced essay writing skills—excellent preparation for college! It's included in the literature course, but if you'd just like your teen to have 12 hours of college prep writing lessons for $240, register using promo code WRITEON. Writing-only students will not need to read any of the literature on the schedule except Frankenstein.

This course will greatly assist parents/students in meeting a-g goals in English, American Literature, and British/World Literature, and will meet many CCSS/OGCS requirements. At the end of the course, you will receive a list of the standards met.

This course is recommended for ages 16+, but younger mature teens are welcome at parental discretion.

SPRING 2019: Foundations

This semester's focus is on narrative genres, the foundations of all stories. We'll work with titles that support American, World, and British Lit, which are required subjects for Ocean Grove/California. Some titles are yet to be announced, but the existing course schedule reflects the quality and significance of the titles and genres we will work with this semester.

Classes meet Fridays at the Abbey Coffee Lounge; literature from 9-11 a.m. and writing from 11-12 a.m. Students will come to the first class having studied the assigned works for that week, and being prepared to discuss them.
