Alabama’s only known modern day African-American child prodigy is the focus of an up-and-coming
documentary that is touching, inspiring and capturing national attention. “Little Music Manchild: The
Malik Kofi Story”, written and produced by Malena Cunningham of Strategic Media Relations, Inc.,
follows the astounding 11-year-old Birmingham native, musician, scholar, public speaker, and fearless
leader as he uses his musical skills to grab attention in the world of classical music.
On April 23, The Birmingham Change Fund will host an official sneak preview fundraiser – The Malik
Kofi Story -- at the Harbert Center at 5 p.m. The event will give the audience a look at the life of this
young, rising star and the family sacrificing to help him achieve. The event will also be used to raise vital
funds to help supplement Kofi’s advanced musical training. Those who attend will get a rare chance to
witness the child prodigy’s phenomenal talents firsthand. The benefit also doubles as a recital, featuring
Kofi and one of his musical mentors, Udi Bar David Philadelphia Orchestra cellist, in a classical concerto.
