Event description

Description

Love a good cuppa? A good natter? Crafting? Perfect... escape your busy schedule and enjoy a couple of hours of 'me-time', allowing yourself to be absorbed in the pure pleasure that is crafting.

Bring your own craft - whatever you love to do, whether drawing, knitting, cross-stitch, beading... Or you can simply do some colouring or origami using the materials provided. Grab a drink and maybe even something from the tempting food menu or display counter and join in!

I'm delighted that we are hosted by Les Petits Choux, which is a family-run independent cafe with gorgeous freshly-made food and drinks and one of my favourite spots in Newcastle. More about Les Petits Choux.

We'll be crafting in front of a bright specialist light box provided by Lumie in autumn and winter, so you'll get a taster of these lights and can ask me any questions you might have. We don't tend to use the light in spring and summer unless it's dull weather, because the cafe receives a lot of natural light and we don't want you to end up over-stimulated! :) If the weather is very fine in spring and summer, then we may sit outside of the cafe or even in nearby Leazes Park to make the most of natural light. If we're going to the park I'll provide picnic blankets to sit on and we'll meet at the cafe first.

“It has been great for finding quality time while around others – I absolutely loved this!”

There are limited places available at these events to keep it a relaxed atmosphere, so book your tickets now!

FAQs

Why do you run the events?

I was diagnosed with Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) in 2003 and have been managing the condition since. I have experienced first-hand how SAD and Winter Blues can impact on quality of life, and how specialist light boxes can make a real difference to maintaining our wellbeing in the autumn and winter months. My aim with Little Light Room is to support you to let your light in - literally and metaphorically! Combining the wellness aspects of light therapy, mindfulness with crafting, and connecting with a community, I hope to provide a friendly and welcoming event where you can enjoy some 'me-time', away from the usual demands of your busy life.

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?

There's no minimum or maximum age for joining in Little Light Room. Well-behaved children and dogs are welcome at Les Petits Choux and at the event.

What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?

Les Petits Choux is located right next to a pay-and-display car park, with further multi-story car parks within five minutes' walk at Percy Street and Eldon Square. Haymarket and Monument Metro stations are within a ten-minute walk as well as the bus stations at Haymarket and Eldon Square.

As a listed building, there is a step at the entrance to Les Petits Choux, so please be aware of this if you have a wheelchair or pram/buggy.

What can I bring into the event?

I will provide colouring and origami materials if you would like to use them. However, most people like to bring their own favourite craft projects or relaxing hobby materials with them. We usually have a range of activities going on around the table - things like knitting, crocheting, drawing, beading, sudoku, photo editing, writing... my only stipulation is that it's something you find relaxing to do - that you aren't doing work!

As you'd expect in a cafe environment, smaller portable and non-messy craft projects work best! :)

Out of respect for the venue providing us with their space free of charge, please don't bring your own food and drinks unless you have special dietary needs that are not covered by the cafe.

Do you make any money from Little Light Room events?

I run Little Light Room events and my associated blog as a personal project purely to make a positive difference to other people's lives. I make a personal financial loss on these activities and am supported by the generosity of Les Petits Choux in hosting the events, and by Lumie, who provide the light boxes and offer a 15% discount off their full-price products to all attendees. I make no commission on any sales from the cafe or from Lumie. I recommend Lumie products because I have used their light boxes and dawn simulators myself for more than 15 years. They are a small company based in Cambridge and they offer 30-day money-back guarantees, 2-year warranties and excellent customer service.

How can I contact the organiser with any questions?
